Arizona Sort of helps out
In her most
recent article, Gail Collins discusses the anti-gay law passed in the Arizona
legislature, which was later vetoed by Governor Jan Brewer. Many people did not
approve of this discrimination, including republican representatives Newt Gingrich
and Mitt Romney. Americans were appalled at the attempt of passing such a law,
causing a stir throughout the country. Collins chose to write about this topic
to highlight the legislatures and law makers of this country. Along with gay
rights, she mentions the abortion law that is also in the house. Although gays
are beginning to increasingly receive support from friends, family, and large
corporations, abortion seems to receive no support, but instead more
restrictions. Through the diction and erudite and solemn tone, it is evident
that Collins feels strongly about abortion and chose to write about it to raise
awareness about the situation, as people
are making quick decisions rather than thinking about the consequences and impacts
it will have on American women.
